Participate in Cool It!
Participating in Cool It! is easy. Here is what you need to do:
1. Create and Register Your Team:
Registration deadline is February 11, 2008
Coaches can download a parental permission form (MS Word) During this phase students can visit the Cool It! Resources Section to learn more about climate science and the causes of climate change and to see examples of solutions other students have created.
2. Complete a Local Greenhouse Gas Inventory:
Oct. 2007 – April 18, 2008
Your team will conduct a greenhouse gas inventory of your school, homes or other local site to see how local activities are contributing to climate change. The inventory will be part of your Team Entry that you will submit on or before April 18, 2008.
3. ( Phase 1 First Year Teams)
Create a Local Climate Change Solution Plan:
Submission due: April 18, 2008
The second and most important part of your Team Entry for Phase 1 is the Local Climate Change Solution Plan. Your solution plan may focus on your school or your community. You decide what your goals are, how you will achieve them and how you will measure success. Be sure to review the Cool It! Rules. You will submit the Solution Plan on or before April 18, 2008.
5. (Phase 2 Second Year Teams)
Implementing Your Plan and Getting Results:
March 2007 – April 2008
Between March 2007 and April 2008 teams will put their Solution plans into action in Phase 2 of the Cool It Challenge.

Teams will submit an implementation report, documenting results of their projects on or before April 18, 2008.
4. Judging and Awards
May 2008
Judging of Team Entries (Greenhouse Gas Inventories and Solutions Plans) takes place in May 2008.
- First Round Judging will take place on April 26, 2008. Phase 1 middle school and high school Finalist teams will be selected in this round. Information on judging locations and times will be sent to teams and posted
- Finalist teams will be invited the Final Judging and Awards Event on May 17, 2008. Prizes for the best middle school and high school solution plans will be awarded at this event. More information on the event will be posted (Coming soon).
